Date: 2022-12-04 05:17 pm (UTC)Suddenly the pain gets INFINITELY WORSE, the wolf crushed into your body. And then that new pain is gone. You can breath again. But someone else is here. You gather all your remaining strength to throw yourself at them. A startled cry. You grab their neck in your grip, momentum dragging you both to the ground.
Blood red. That's what you see blood red. But not liquid. Eyes. Eyes of surprise and deepening annoyance. Distantly, you demand who they are.
"Pervert!" The surprise makes you release them. A stupid mistake. One that gets you punched in the face. They're laughing now. He's (minus the wings) laughing now. Oh so pleased with himself. Even more amused by your indignant response. Throwing everything back at you with ease. But keeping enough distance to avoid another attempt.
You realize you know each other. You fought each other before. He pretends to pout about not being able to fight anymore. You're on the same team now. The feeling isn't mutual. But he ignores you, reminds you of your current condition. More shouting, bickering, stupid shit. He seems to enjoy it.
Until you try to get up and can't. He offers a hand. Of course you refuse. He chides you and eventually drags you up anyway. Helps you down the mountain you had been on.
More pointless conversation. Mostly about him. Lucien. You refuse to give anything about yourself. Aside from your name. Practically snarled out when he reminds you that he just saved your life.
He manages to say something stupid again. You lose your temper. Wrench him around. He's annoyed now but less than annoyed than he probably should be. Seems to shift topic with more inane talking. It's infuriating. But the more rankled you get, the more he seems to enjoy it. Even gives you a nickname just to piss you off. Nikki.
You instantly hate it. Especially how he says it sounds cute.
You reach the mountain's base. You want to leave. Get away from him. His inability to shut up. He asks about your shoulder. It's in bad shape. The other wolf cut to the bone. One of your worser injuries. Mentions his sister is good with medical supplies, you won't need to go to a clinic. Another prideful refusal, but you're so tired now.
He's already figured out your buttons. Says you owe him for saving your life and a name isn't going to cut it. Says you're part of a team now and his sister wants to meet more people like the two of them. Wants you stay with them until you're recovered. Why does he care? It's so stupid. But you can't go back to pack. You can't endanger them. You have nowhere else to go anymore. And you have to stay close to Jacen. You have no choice.
Acceptance. A handshake. "Guess that makes us partners for the time being, Nikki."
A mistake. You know it's a mistake. So why do you still follow?
